For most people today life without electricity has become unthinkable.
Even if you're not a daily computer user, you probably use some
electrical equipment at work, and at home we all have electrical appliances
and gadgets. Our environment is contaminated by the electromagnetic radiation
that comes from every one of our electrical gizmos. Why do your eyes or
head ache? Why do you feel so tired?
Here in Japan the government has yet to decide a 'safe' level for
electromagnetic emission from various electrical products and current standards
of acceptable emissions are set by manufacturers in the private sector.
In the USA, by contrast, the government has set standards, but these standards
are for electrical appliances used individually. In a world in which most
of the time how much radiation can we really call 'safe'?
All electrical appliances produce electromagnetic radiation. Even
if the level of electromagnetic waves coming from the televition is 'safe',
what about the level emitted by the television and clock-radio combined?
And these are not the only EM wave-producing appliances... The point is,
how much can the human body really take safely?
